A QUARTET of north Hampshire athletes will travel to Alexander Stadium, in Birmingham, for the Sainsbury’s British Championships this weekend.

Hook distance runner Charlotte Purdue and Basingstoke Athletic Club sprinters Andy Blow, Kieran Showler-Davis and Dean Showler-Davis are all due to compete.

The event doubles up as trials for August’s European Championships, and Purdue will be looking to boost her chances of competing in Zurich by finishing in the top two in the 5,000m.

Sunday’s race will be Purdue’s first competitive outing on the track this year. In addition to finishing either first or second, she must also record the qualifying time of 15min 30sec in order to be considered for selection.

The Showler-Davis brothers will compete in both the 100m and 200m, with the 200m taking place on Friday and Saturday and the shorter distance being run over the weekend.

Blow will travel up to Birmingham for the 110m hurdles on Sunday.
