This live event has finished

  • FULL-TIME - Basingstoke Town 0-1 Havant and Waterlooville
  • Town slip to 14th after disappointing defeat to Hampshire rivals.
  • Basingstoke have failed to score in three successive games.
  • Kabba scores the only goal of the game on 19 minutes.
  • Jones hits the crossbar for Havant in the second half.
  • Town fail to seriously trouble the visiting goalkeeper in a poor Conference South Hampshire derby at the Camrose.

That's all for today. Join Graham Merry for live coverage of Basingstoke Bison's trip to Swindon Wildcats in a little bit.

I'll be back for Town's game against Concord Rangers on Tuesday night. Let's hope they do a bit better.

Today's result has seen Town slip two places to 14th in the Conference South table, 12 points outside the play-off places. Absolutely no chance now.

A post-match video interview with Basingstoke Town manager Jason Bristow can be seen by clicking here.

Basingstoke RFC lost 67-19 at Tring but it was better news for Reading, who won 2-1 away at Birmingham City.

Another game without a goal for Town, who have failed to find the back of the net in three games now.

They didn't look like scoring at any point today. A poor game and any lingering play-off hopes must be over.

Reaction to follow.

Basingstoke Town 0-1 Havant and Waterlooville

90+5 - Buchel juggles Soares' corner and at one stage it looks like he might fumble it in, but he recovers to spare his own blushes.

90+3 - Havant break but Ciardini fails to link up with Ryan, Rice cutting out the pass.

90+3 - Another spell of pressure but Gasson heads wide.

90+2 - That's a lovely touch from McAuley to put Barrett in but his touch is heavy, allowing Buchel to tip the ball away from him. A good save.

87 - He almost gets a chance too. Barrett's touch finds him in the area but his low drive is blocked.

87 - Gasson has gone up front for Town. Desperate times.

86 - Good challenge from Rice to deny Paterson a clear chance as he looked to run through.

85 - David Ray gets up at the far post to meet Green's corner but it's a little high for him and he can only head into the side-netting.

81 - McAuley is in down the Town right but a good challenge from Ryan Woodford stops him getting a clean shot away. It looked like there was a deflection as the ball went wide but the referee has awarded a goal-kick.

80 - Havant and Waterlooville - Steve Ramsey and Matt Paterson on for Aristide Bassele and Sahr Kabba

76 - Basingstoke Town - Neil Barrett on for Robbie Matthews

Another poor afternoon for Matthews. McAuley and Soares look like they is going to support Bignall in a 4-3-3 formation.

75 - A terrible touch from Matthews gives Ciardini the chance to break for Havant. He has men in support but fails to find any of them with a poor pass into the box.

73 - Matthews cuts in on his left foot following a decent run from Soares. Not a bad effort but it's over the crossbar.

Can't really see where a goal is coming from. It's comfortable for Havant.

71 - Ciardini's first involvement is to attempt a shot from a free-kick inside his own half. Little more than a pass-back for Wells.

69 - Havant and Waterlooville - Nic Ciardini on for Scott Jones.

68 - Robbie Matthews - Basingstoke Town

Matthews challenges Buchel for a loose ball. Nothing in that but the referee blows up for a foul and books Matthews. Poor decision.

66 - Good work from Smart to force a corner for Town, but the ball in is easily claimed by Buchel.

64 - Almost immediately, the ball breaks for Smart on the edge of the area. He catches his shot well enough but it's too close to Buchel in the Havant goal.

63 - Basingstoke Town - Nathan Smart on for Andrew Jenkinson

It's not been a great afternoon for Jenkinson either. Smart has gone onto the right wing, with McAuley moving into the centre alongside Daly.

60 - Soares hits another good low shot from distance but it's wide.

59 - Basingstoke Town - Nicholas Bignall on for Jordace Holder-Spooner.

Bignall is on for his debut, replacing the ineffective Holder-Spooner.

59 - Scott Donnelly lets fly from distance but it's well over the Town goal.

58 - Another chance for the visitors. Kabba lets fly from distance and Wells makes a good save to keep him out.

56 - Town fail to clear their lines and a nice touch puts Jones in space in the area. He goes for the curler and is unlucky to see the ball hit the crossbar. Wells was beaten.

56 - Havant's Scott Jones breaks dangerously and it takes a good challenge from Rice to stop him linking up with Kabba.

It really is scrappy at the moment. Town can't get anything going in an attacking sense.

52 - Rice's low cross almost finds Holder-Spooner but the Town striker is unable to get there in time.

It's been a slow start to the second half. Neither side is able to get on top.

47 - Matthews heads the ball down, but cannot find a team-mate. The big Town striker probably should have done better there.

Town get the second half started. They are now playing into the wind, though it has died down at bit.

No changes for either side at the break. Expect Bignall to get a run-out at some point though.

The players are back out for the second half.

Of course, this afternoon's game is a dress rehearsal for May's Hampshire Senior Cup final. Who will get the psychological edge?

Can Town make a comeback in the second half, or will Havant continue to have the Indian sign over them? This is the fourth time the sides have met this season, and Town are yet to beat their Hampshire rivals.

Elsewhere, it doesn't look like it's going to be a good day for Basingstoke RFC, who are losing 34-0 at the halfway stage of their trip to Tring.

Reading are drawing 1-1 away at Birmingham City.

An even first half. Town probably had more possession, but Havant created the better chances.

Basingstoke Town 0-1 Havant and Waterlooville

45 - Bassele and Kabba almost link up down the Havant left but the return ball is too heavy for Kabba.

A brief hailstorm is over and the sun is threatening to come back out. Mixed day weather-wise.

39 - Louie Soares turns 30 yards from the Havant goal and fires in an excellent shot that Buchel does well to push around the post.

35 - Town fail to deal with a corner and nobody seems to know where the ball is as it drops down. Ryan Woodford finds his barings first but effort on the stretch is deflected into the side-netting.

33 - A clever free-kick from Daly has Holder-Spooner in behind but his touch lets him down and he does well to win a corner. That is taken short, resulting in a header from Jay Gasson being caught by the Havant goalkeeper.

32 - Havant are awarded a soft free-kick 30 yards out. Perry Ryan takes it, blasting well over the crossbar.

29 - Robbie Rice lets fly from distance. Buchel is worried but it fizzes wide of the near post.

27 - Good run from Havant's Bassele, who makes ground down the left but can only find the side-netting from a narrow angle.

The rain is coming down pretty heavily now. Town are feeding off scraps in attack. Too many long balls.

It's coming over very dark. Rain looks increasingly likely.

23 - Kabba is almost in behind again. David Ray does well to hold him up but he gets a shot away and Wells saves with his feet.

A shame for the hosts. They had made the better start, pressing Havant well, but a mistake at the back cost them.

19 - Basingstoke Town 0-1 Havant and Waterlooville - Sahr Kabba

Forget that. A simple long ball somehow finds SAHR KABBA in behind and while Louis Wells gets a hand to his shot, deflecting it up in the air, it drops into the net.

Havant are struggling, trying to hit long balls despite playing into the wind. They actually look good when they try to play.

16 - Green wins the ball high up the field, plays a pass and gets the ball back before blasting in a shot that doesn't clear the Havant crossbar by much.

13 - Town break dangerously through Wes Daly and a clever touch from McAuley has him behind the defence. Unfortunately, the finish doesn't match what went before as he slices badly wide.

10 - After a bit of a stalemate, that's a decent effort from Havant's Aristide Bassele, whose low curling shot from the edge of the area forces Louis Wells into a comfortable save diving to his left.

There's quite a strong wind out there. Town have it behind them in the first half.

Town have made a positive start. They are playing 4-4-2, while Havant have gone for a 4-5-1 formation, with the pace Sahr Kabba their lone striker.

4 - Havant concede a free-kick 30 yards out. Adam Green goes for a low shot. It's not too far wide but Buchel had it covered.

1 - That's the first effort of the match and it comes from Town's Robbie Matthews. He gets on the end of Shaun McAuley's ball in but can only volley straight into the arms of Benjamin Buchel in the Havant goal.

Havant get us under way. Town are shooting towards the Town End in the first half, with the sun at their backs.

The players make their way out for the pre-match rituals.

The players have gone inside to make their final preparations. There are plenty of youngsters from a local club out there though.

Elsewhere this afternoon, Basingstoke RFC are away at Tring in National League Three London. Win and they will put some more distance between themselves and the bottom three.

Reading are away at Birmingham City in the Championship, while London Irish host Bath at 5.30pm.

I'll try to keep you up to date with how 'Stoke and Reading are getting on.

Basingstoke Town: Wells, Rice, Green, Jenkinson, Gasson, Ray, Daly, McAuley, Holder-Spooner, Matthews, Soares. Subs: Adams, Bignall, Smart, Johnson-Schuster, Barrett.

Havant and Waterlooville: Buchel, Newton, Cummings, Hutchinson, Woodford, Strugnell, Bassele, Ryan, Jones, Donnelly, Kabba. Subs: Ramsey, Paterson, Ciardini, Przespolewski, Monteiro.

Just one change to the Town team that drew with Tonbridge on Tuesday, Jordace Holder-Spooner coming in for Kezie Ibe, who must have picked up a knock.

New signing Nicholas Bignall is on the bench, as is Neil Barrett following a hamstring injury.

However, Simon Dunn and Manny Williams remain out injured.

It's a strong-looking Havant side, but they are without Dennis Oli and Christian Nanetti.

It's a fresh but sunny afternoon in Basingstoke for today's Hampshire derby.

It's a big game for Havant, who still harbour realistic play-off hopes. They are ninth in the table, three places and two points above Town, nine points off the play-offs but with games in hand over the sides above them.

Good afternoon and welcome to live text coverage of today's Conference South game between Basingstoke Town and Havant and Waterlooville at the Camrose.
