That's me done for the day. Join me again tomorrow to see if Hogan can reach the second round by knocking out number 15 seed Scott Mitchell.
Right, a few stats to round up before I head off.
Hogan's single dart average was 27.92, while he hit four 180s, seven scores over 100 and 27 scores of 100 or more.
I'm in the process of uploading a video interview with Paul Hogan, but needless to say, he's delighted.
So is his wife, Angela. Not Wendy as the TV commentators kept calling her!
Not a classic encounter but Hogan played some decent darts early on. Sedlacek made him sweat but Hogan deserved his win and will face Scott Mitchell tomorrow afternoon.
Reaction to follow.
HOGAN WINS THE MATCH 3-1
A really nervy final leg there. Hogan missed six darts for the match before taking out double five to win the match.
Hogan levels it up, an 18-dart leg that included a 180 ending with a dart at double eight just staying in the board. He's one leg away from victory and has the throw in the next.
Hogan's throw is broken, Sedlacek checking out from 80 to go ahead in the set. He has the throw in the decider as well.
Another scrappy leg and Sedlacek eventually takes it in 24 darts to level the set at 1-1. Hogan has been good on doubles so far this afternoon but he struggled in that leg.
Hogan seems to have his mojo back as he hits a 180 before going close to checking out 156. He hits double 18 at the second attempt to record a 13 dart leg and take the opening leg.
SEDLACEK WINS THE THIRD SET
Hogan seems to have gone off the boil. He was never close to Sedlacek in that leg and the Czech sends the match to a fourth set by checking out 96.
A messy leg from Hogan, who was unable to get down to a double, and Sedlacek hit double five to save the match, making it 2-2 in the third set.
Hogan hits his second 180 of the match to get ahead on the Sedlacek throw, wrapping the leg up on double 17.
He's one leg away from a place in the first round.
Throwing first, Hogan levels the set up. He was always ahead and hit double 16 first time to take the leg.
Good play from Sedlacek, who threw first and checked out 141 to take the lead in the third set. A 12 dart leg.
HOGAN WINS THE SECOND SET
Hogan checks out 84, hitting double eight to win the leg and the second set. He needs one more for a place in the first round proper.
Hogan, throwing first, scrapes through that one. He was well ahead but hit the wrong bed firing at double eight to go bust and ended up finishing on double 18.
Sedlacek gets his first leg on the board, levelling the second set at 1-1. Hogan had his chances against the throw, missing three shots at doubles before Sedlacek hit double eight to take it.
Another to Hogan, who misses three darts at doubles before hitting double eight to see out the leg.
HOGAN WINS THE FIRST SET
A great start from the Basingstoke man, who takes the first set against the darts.
He hit the first 180 of the match in that leg before checking out 80, again finishing on double top to see the set out.
Hogan takes a 2-0 lead, again hitting double top. Sedlacek had a chance, but couldn't hit his doubles again.
Paul Hogan takes the lead, hitting double 20 to win against the throw after Sedlacek had missed three darts at doubles.
Karel Sedlacek will throw first in the opening leg.
The players are taking their warm-up darts. Not long to go now.
Here comes Paul 'Crocodile Dundee' Hogan into the arena! It's Crocodile Rock he comes out to this afternoon.
We don't know much about Hogan's opponent this afternoon. Karel Sedlacek is from the Czech Republic and is ranked 100 places below Hogan.
The winner of this afternoon's game will take on number 15 seed Scott Mitchell in the first round proper tomorrow afternoon.
Tony Eccles holds on to win the leg and match, knocking number five seed Daryl Fitton out. Paul Hogan is up next.
Fitton has won that leg but will have to win the next against the darts to stay in the championship.
Tony Eccles needs just one more leg to knock out Darryl Fitton. It would be a shock.
Tony Eccles has just taken a 2-1 lead in sets over Daryl Fitton.
The matches are best of five sets in the opening two rounds. Each set is the best of five legs.
The first match of the afternoon, between Daryl Fitton and Tony Eccles, is into a third set. They are locked together at 1-1.
Bumped into Paul coming out of the toilets. He seemed pretty relaxed.
Just snuck out for a spot of lunch. Steak and ale pie, chips and peas. When in Rome.
A little bit of info about Paul Hogan. Originally from the midlands, he has resided in Buckskin, Basingstoke, for several years.
He has reached Lakeside six times in the past, reaching two quarter-finals - but he last made it here in 2006.
Now 50, he is a delivery driver by trade. His nickname is Crocodile Dundee as he shares a name with the star of the films, Paul Hogan, and he walks out to the tune Crocodile Shoes.
The action is about to get under way. Hogan's match is second up, probably in about half-an-hour's time.
Good afternoon and welcome to live updates from Lakeside, where Basingstoke darts ace Paul Hogan is taking on Karel Sedlacek of the Czech Republic in a preliminary round match at the BDO World Professional Darts Championships.
