Justin Rose claims share of seventh place at Nedbank Golf Challenge

Basingstoke Gazette: Justin Rose. Justin Rose.

JUSTIN Rose overcame a slow start to finish in a share of seventh place at the Nedbank Golf Challenge, which took place at Sun City, in South Africa, over the weekend.

The north Hampshire golfer was four-over-par after his first nine holes but recovered to card an opening round of 73 (+1), leaving him in touch with the leaders.

Rose fared much better on days two and three, recording just one bogey each day as he went round in 67 (-5) and 69 (-3), but he was out of contention for victory going into the final round.

An eagle three at the par-five ninth was the highlight of Rose’s last round as he went around in 67 (-5) to move up to seventh place, a bogey at the last costing him a position.

The tournament was the former Robert May’s School pupil’s last of an excellent season that saw him claim his first major title at the US Open and perform consistently throughout the year to challenge for honours in both America and Europe.

As a result, he has been named on the shortlist for the 2013 BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award, which will be presented in Leeds on Sunday.
