CURTIS Angell’s second goal in the space of a week saw Whitchurch United provide a Hampshire Senior Cup shock by beating Conference South outfit Eastleigh on their own ground.

The full-back, who scored the Jam Boys’ winner in their 1-0 Wessex League Premier Division success over Moneyfields last weekend, repeated the trick in the cup on Tuesday night, scoring the only goal of the game just before half-time.

Eastleigh fielded just four players with first-team experience and Whitchurch were the better team throughout the first half.

Luke Walker went close for the visitors before Angell struck, forcing the ball home from close range after Adam Pearson headed a corner back across goal.

The hosts fought back after the break, with Sam Wilson blazing over from close range and Chris Dillon glancing a header narrowly wide, but Whitchurch held on for a famous victory.

However, the performance was not enough to impress manager Jim Macey, who described his side’s display as “awful.”

“We made them look good in the second half as some of my players just did not look up for it and at half-time the body language was not good,” he added. “On that surface and in that stadium they should be desperate to perform.”
