STACEYS Angling supremo Keith Brown, in tandem with Basingstoke Railway Club, held the annual charity match last Sunday, and raised a fabulous £2,022 for Jack’s Place, an offshoot of Naomi House.

Co-ordinating the running of five matches on five different venues and running a barbecue afterwards took some organising, so well done to them and to the clubs that participated.

Staceys match group were at New Barlows Lake, where Daniel Butler put pole and paste to good use, running out the winner with 45lb 4oz of carp and bream.

Tadley Angling’s Kevin Roberts fished pole and caster for his even 27lb of carp. Steve Davis came next with 23lb 4oz, followed by Kevin Smith on 22lb 10oz.

12 fished and caught.

Keith Brown took time off from his organising to win the Basingstoke Railway Club event with a carp and tench bag scaling 22lb, pole and mag was the method. Rob Carr came second with two carp and bits for 10lb 15oz on pole and maggot. Martin Fosey put 9lb 8oz on the scales for third place, while Trevor Matthew came fourth with 8lb 11oz.

16 fished and caught.

South Reading AC went to Soke Road Lake for their contribution, and Tony Holdsworth took the honours, using pole and pellet to catch 31lb of carp. Richie Withers caught 19lb of carp for second spot, while Duncan Bales needed 17lb 8oz of carp for third place.

15 fished and caught.

Adventure AS used their own Willow Pool for this event, and it was Roger Sargent who sorted it with 29lb 12oz of carp, mainly caught in the margins on pole and meat. Nick Sargent made it a family one-two with 25lb 4oz on the pellet waggler and bomb. Mark Hornblow’s 22lb 12oz was next, followed by Darren Wright on 22lb 4oz.

11 fished and caught.

Camrose AC found themselves at Old Barlows Lake for their leg of the charity match, where Bob Frost won it with 18lb 9oz of mixed on the pole and pellet. Bill Gordon crept into second spot with 11lb 13oz of mixed. Colin Thomas was next with 11lb 8oz, followed by Pete Morris with 10lb 10oz.

10 fished and caught.

Billy (Two Pellet) Atkinson and Colin Thomas both went for a swim during the match to retrieve pole sections, not a pretty sight.

Kennet Ospreys went to Watmore Farm last Sunday, where on a very patchy venue, Paul Bassinger won his first match with 85lb 5oz of carp on the floating feeder and pellet wag. Steve Hunt caught late on the feeder to record 68lb 12oz of carp. Ian Jones put 66lb 6oz on the scales for third spot. Glen Wills caught 61lb, and Graham Shadwell made up the frame with 38lb 10oz.

28 fished but not all caught.

’Er indoors is doing extra hours at work, I hope the gardening isn’t jeopardised, or more importantly, my meals don’t suffer.
