MATT McNally and Graham Buckingham both hit centuries as Hook and Newnham Basics II played out a dramatic tie away at Rowledge II in Hampshire League County Division One.

The hosts reached a daunting 296-4 from their 50 overs but McNally smashed 138 and Buckingham 103, putting on 212 together, as Hook ended their innings on 296-3 to grab a share of the spoils.

Old Basing’s trip to Ventnor II was abandoned due to wet weather, a fate that also befell the games involving Hartley Wintney II, Overton and Whitchurch in Division Three North.

Hook and Newnham Basics III did manage to get their game completed, beating hosts Alton III by six wickets. The home team were restricted to 194-6, a total Hook chased down with four wickets down, James Peacock making 66 and Vinny Gardener an unbeaten 58 to get them over the line.

Basingstoke and North Hants III are second in the table thanks to an eight-wicket victory over visiting Winterslow. Andy Neal took 5-37 as Winterslow were dismissed for 138, while Lee Nurse made an unbeaten 54, putting on 109 with his father Leon (49) to see Basingstoke home.

The match between AWE Tadley and Hobos in Division Four North was abandoned with the result in the balance. Hobos were bowled out for 201, with AWE 64-3 in reply when the rain came.

Struggling Ramsdell’s Josh Holland made 62 as his side reached 209-9 and visiting Steep were 54-2 when the match had to be called off.
