PHIL Hudson was rewarded for two consistent rounds as he won Hartley Wintney Golf Club’s 2013 Men’s Club Championship.

A total of 68 members took part in the two-day, 36-hole event, with breezy conditions and quick greens making for tough scoring conditions.

Ian Fitzpatrick was the leader after day one, carding a three-over-par round of 74 to hold a three-shot overnight advantage over Hudson (77). Ian Callaway and Dave Bartlett were a shot back in third.

However, Fitzpatrick faded on the second day, shooting 85 (+14) to fall out of contention, eventually finishing third. That left the door open for Hudson to claim victory with a second round of 77 (+6), though he was run close by runner-up Callaway, who matched his score to finish just one shot behind.

The handicap competition was won by Bradley Walsh, who carded nett scores of 67 (-4) and 72 (+1), to finish three shots ahead of Roly Newman.

Deirdre Randall won the ladies’ event for the 10th time, beating Di Child by six shots over 36 holes. Karin Robey won the nett competition, beating second-place Niki Orchard by two shots.

Robey also won the ladies’ June medal to make it six competition wins for 2013, shooting nett 72 (+1) to beat Brigette Cullen by three shots. Sally Solomon won the bronze division with a nett 74 (+3), beating Gill Melody by one, while a nett 75 (+4) was enough to see Di Roberts win the copper division, beating Brenda Beales by a single stroke.

There was a close finish in the ladies’ handicap trophy, played over 18 holes, with three players finishing tied on 34 points. Cullen got the nod on countback, with Christine Curtis second and Pat Stow third.

John Wilkinson saw off a field of 132 players to win the Men’s Centenary Medal with a nett score of 67 (-4). Trevor Buchanan was second after shooting 69 (-2), beating John Alley on countback.

The seniors Stableford was won by Derek Graves, who amassed 38 points to beat Mike Gentry and Clive Pappadakis by one. Gentry was given second place on countback.

Linda Turner and Paula Spurrier are through to the third round of the 2013 Knight Cup after claiming away wins at Cams Hall and South Winchester, while the ladies’ Stoneham Cup team remain unbeaten this year after claiming victories over Botley Park and Royal Winchester.

The seniors team also won, claiming their first victory away from home at East Horton.
