Morgan Schneiderlin deserves an international call-up from France, according to his midfield partner at Saints.

Schneiderlin revealed earlier this season that he is hoping to catch the eye of national team boss Didier Deschamps, and Jack Cork has now backed him to break into the country’s senior squad following his immense performances in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old’s next opportunity to be selected will come this summer, with Les Bleus having friendly matches lined up away to Uruguay and Brazil as they step up their preparations for the 2014 World Cup.

Cork believes that, due to his efforts in England’s top flight this term, Schneiderlin deserves a call up.

“Definitely. He’s played every game in the Premier League this year and not been outdone by anyone,” he said.

“He’s looked a great player, he’s not looked out of place at all, and it’s really suiting him the Premier League.

“I don’t see why they shouldn’t look at him for an international, because he’s been brilliant.”

Cork and Schneiderlin have certainly formed an outstanding partnership in the two holding midfield roles that have formed such an important foundation in Saints’ 4-2-3-1 system this season.

“I’ve loved it,” said Cork. “We seem to have a good understanding.

“We’ve played so many games together now, so we know what the other one’s thinking.”

However, despite the level of Schneiderlin’s performances this term, he did not make it onto the shortlist last week for the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

Cork believes the midfield ace, along with 17-year-old left-back Luke Shaw, would have warranted a nomination.

“Morgan’s been unbelievable this year and Luke’s been brilliant as well,” he said.

“It’s a shame that people haven’t looked at Morgan or someone like Luke for player of the year, because consistently they’ve done brilliantly.”

As well as Schneiderlin, Cork hopes there will also soon be international recognition for more of his teammates, such as Rickie Lambert and Jay Rodriguez.

“If you look at the goals that have been scored at our club from English players and the chances that are being created, you can’t look any further than them two,” he said.

“Jay has his own abilities and Rickie has his abilities. They’re both great players who wouldn’t look out of place in the international scene for England.

“It would be good to see if they did get a call up to see how they did cope, because I know they would do really well.

“They just need that little chance really.”

As for Cork’s own international hopes, his displays this season, coupled with a successful under-21 career and his role in Great Britain’s Olympic squad last year, mean he may at some point come onto Roy Hodgson’s radar.

The 23-year-old insists, however, that a call-up is not on his mind right now.

He said: “Everyone wants to play internationally, don’t they?

“I was just sort of looking forward to playing as many games as I could this season, because it was frustrating for me at the start of the season [injuries meant he missed the first ten league games].

“I’m just enjoying helping to keep this team in the Premier League and playing the football we have been playing.

“If that [an international call-up] does come then it would be brilliant, but it’s not on my mind at the minute.”
