Saints only need to add the signature of Luke Shaw to complete a full set of first team stars committed to a long term St Mary’s stay.

Goalkeeper Artur Boruc has become the latest player to put pen to paper on an extended contract, signing up until 2015.

Shaw is set to formally sign a new five-year deal with Saints on his 18th birthday in July.

Once that is done, Saints and executive chairman Nicola Cortese will have everybody they want to keep at the club in the long haul committed to lengthy contracts.

Skipper Adam Lallana last week committed his future to Saints by signing a new deal taking him through to 2018.

Morgan Schneiderlin, Emmanuel Mayuka and James Ward-Prowse are tied to the club until 2017.

Stellar names like Rickie Lambert, Gaston Ramirez, Jay Rodriguez and Jason Puncheon are signed to Saints for another three years beyond this season.

And the likes of Jack Cork, Jos Hooiveld, Jose Fonte, Maya Yoshida and now Boruc have signed until 2015.

Guly do Prado, meanwhile, is the only Saints player who has appeared in recent weeks whose contract expires in 2014.

Testament to the scale of Saints’ ambitions is that upon signing Boruc admitted he is targeting qualification for the Champions League.

“I don’t think [Champions League is too big an ask]," the former Celtic goalkeeper said.

“We're playing Swansea this weekend and they show playing totally different football that you can achieve a lot.

“We are heading to this with our new manager. We are showing a lot of good work and the results we are getting are very good as well so, yeah, why not?

“You need to ambitious in your life to achieve your ambitions.

“You never know what is going to happen - it is a funny story with football.

“Everybody has great ambitions and you need to work hard to be in that position. I do believe that we can achieve it.”

The long term deals, which have also been recently penned by first team stars such as Lambert, Schneiderlin, Puncheon and Lallana, gives Mauricio Pochettino added stability when he goes into his first full season as Saints boss.

It also makes clearer the areas in which he will want to strengthen in the summer.
