LODDON Vale hosted a quarter-final match of the Yetton Plate between the ladies of Egerton Park (Bexhill) and Nailsea (Bristol).
In a very exciting match the two teams were separated by no more than six shots throughout the afternoon. With two ends to play Egerton led 63-62 and they then picked up four shots to win by five.
Loddon played the second of two fixtures against Thameside Wanderers and in this instance lost by one shot, 127-126.
The winning rinks were Yvonne Grant (23-14), Gerald Norris (23-17), Ray Harris (17-13) and Steve Sallows (17-16). There were three losing rinks, Fred Goddard (21-14), Terry Jones (25-15) and Sheila Girle (21-17).
In the Wessex League, Vale had a splendid win over second-placed Carterton 81-78 obtaining 14 points and pushing the club into fifth place.
The following week in the same competition they beat Chipping Norton 109-51, thus guaranteeing either fourth or fifth place.
On the afternoon after that game, the club hosted a match against Berkshire Granfers. The club is solely formed to raise money for charity and hence not all its members bowl indoors.
So, not surprisingly, Loddon won 114-78. The winning rinks were Frank Fuller (18-10), John Holmes (18-15), John Hilton (20-9) and Ian Laming (29-9). Losing rinks were Mick Jones (22-18) and Steve Foyle (13-11).
Loddon beat touring side Flackwell Heath from High Wycombe, who are an outdoor club, 146-60. The winning rinks were Steve Foyle (26-6), Peter Grant (26-12), John Holmes (20-11), Steve Sallows (29-6) and Harris (32-8). The only losing rink was Terry Jones (17-13).
Geraint Jones is through to the county singles quarter-final after beating Carl Taylor 21-18.
Last Saturday the club played a friendly against a team representing the Isle of Wight, with the Vale winning 197-112 in a very enjoyable match.
Winning rinks were skipped by Brian Ambler (34-8), Tina Rogers (25-9), Don Lee (28-15), Harris (23-11), Hilton (21-20), Girle (21-20) and Fuller (29-12). The only losing rink was Jones (17-16).
