RAILWAY stations across the South got a romantic revamp on Valentine’s Day.

Operator South West Trains changed the names of many of its stations on Saturday on its departure boards.

Basingstoke became Beautiful Basingstoke, while Overton became Loverton.

Other name changes included When Harry met Salisbury, Four Weddings and Farnborough, London Waterlove (London Waterloo), Hampton Courting (Hampton Court) and Romsey and Juliet.

Customers could look at a list of all the changes at the customer enquiry desk between platforms two and three at Basingstoke railway station.

The changes proved a hit on social media, with passengers sharing pictures on sites such as Twitter and Facebook.

A spokeswoman for the South West Trains-Network Rail Alliance said: “In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, we asked our customers and employees to suggest quirky romance-themed alternatives to our station names.

“We got some great suggestions, many of which we displayed on customer information screens across the network for one day only on Saturday.

“We hope those travelling with us on the day enjoyed their journeys and had a lovely Valentine’s Day.”
