Tyres valued at £20,000 stolen from depot at Nursling

A GANG got away with £20,000 worth of brand new tyres after breaking into a storage depot at Nursling.

Police say that the 116 Michelin car and lorry tyres were stored in a container at Roadways Container Logistics’ premises on Nursling Industrial Estate in Test Lane.

The thieves struck under the cover of darkness between 3am and 6am on Wednesday. Officers believe that a container lorry or possibly two vans were used as getaway vehicles.

Greg Vint from Roadways Container Logistics said that the tyres didn’t belong to the company but to a haulier which uses the site for vehicle parking.

However, he added: “An alleged incident has been reported to the police by a haulier. We are helping the police with their inquiries,” said Mr Vint.

Romsey-based PC Lindsay Miell said: “The quantity of the stolen property means that the offenders must have used a container-sized lorry or two vans to remove the tyres.

“Police need to hear from anyone who was in the area at time and must have heard or saw anything suspicious. We also need to hear from any individual or business that is offered new Michelin tyres for a much reduced price.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the officer at Romsey police station on 101.
