A NEW website will reveal health inspection ratings for eateries in the Hart area.
Safe2eat will list the latest food safety assessments by Hart District Council's environmental officers, and was set to go online on Friday.
Businesses, such as pubs, restaurants, takeaways and supermarkets, will be given either an excellent, satisfactory or unsatisfactory rating, using a scoring system backed by the Food Standards Agency.
They will then receive a certificate confirming the rating, which can be displayed.
Councillor Richard Appleton, portfolio holder for planning and regulation, said: "Safe2eat provides the residents of Hart with a new opportunity to make informed choices over where they eat. Hart is committed to improving the standards of its food businesses by taking action against unsatisfactory premises and acknowledging the efforts of those who do comply with the legislation through the provision of an excellent' rating."
The safe2eat website is already used by eight other authorities in Hampshire, including Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and Rushmoor Borough Council, in response to pressure for openness following the Freedom of Information Act.
The website is www.safe2eat.com
To report concerns about food businesses in the Hart area, contact the district council's environmental health department on 01252 774296.
