Sentinel Housing Association has announced it has bought the Eli Lilly and Company Ltd site in Kingsclere Road, Houndmills, Basingstoke.

The Basingstoke-based landlord bought the neighbouring Liverpool Victoria site earlier this year and says it will now take forward the regeneration of the two sites together.

Sentinel Chief Executive Martin Nurse said: “We want to provide affordable housing for those people who are priced out of the rest of the property market. With the reduction of Government subsidies for new homes we’re developing a range of innovative business models to help us meet the increasing demand for new homes.”

A spokesman for Lilly said: “Sentinel is a strong local partner. We’re supportive of their intention to involve local people in their plans and look forward to seeing the regeneration of the Kingsclere Road site start to take place.”

Sentinel says it will launch a series of community consultations later this year giving local residents and other stakeholders the chance to be involved in shaping the future of this new development.

Is it the new planning strategy to have housing in the middle of an industrial area?

On one hand, might cause issues (noise complaints, access); but on other bring people closer to job opportunities so they can walk or bicycle to work.
