Rotary concert honours glorious 2012
2012 was a glorious year – and celebrating the last 12 months will be the theme of a new year fundraising concert that has been organised by The Rotary Club of Basingstoke Deane.
On February 3, the Rotarians have planned a fabulous musical celebration of The Queen’s Jubilee, the Olympics and the Paralympics, featuring the majestic Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines.
It has been more than four years since the band last came to The Anvil, in Basingstoke, for the popular annual Rotary concert, so their return will be much anticipated.
They will perform a selection of well-known stirring pieces featuring their top-class soloists, supported by the hugely talented Hampshire County Youth Choir and, by special invitation, world-class trombonist Professor Gordon Campbell.
The last 12 months have been a great year for Britain, with The Queen’s Jubilee, the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, Andy Murray winning the US Open, the Ryder Cup winning team’s miracle comeback at Medinah, and Bradley Wiggins winning the Tour de France as well as Olympic gold.
All proceeds raised by the concert will go to charities supported by The Rotary Club of Basingstoke Deane, in particular Help for Heroes and Combat Stress, who provide help for ex-servicemen and women when they are in most need.
The music begins in The Anvil on Sunday, February 3 at 3pm. Tickets priced £20-£25 are available now from the box office on 01256 844244 or online at anvilarts.org.uk.
