LAST week marked Baby Loss Awareness Week, and a Basingstoke dad hopes to raise awareness having completed a 24-hour run.

Lee Ocean started his Ultra Run at 9am on Saturday, October 10 and finished at 9am on Sunday, October 11, running around Basingstoke non-stop for 24 hours to raise funds for the Farnborough SANDS.

The neo-natal and stillbirth charity supported his ex wife Genevieve Baldwin after the couple's daughter Imogen was stillborn on March 9, 2013.

Lee, 34, from Popley, said Genevieve went to Basingstoke hospital at 42 weeks, and everything was fine but she was given some tablets to start labour.

Genevieve then complained of reduced movement, and returned to hospital where the couple were given the devastating news that a heartbeat could not be found on an ultrasound.

The couple had to go through the process of an induced labour and birth of their stillborn daughter.

Lee has since been on a mission to raise awareness of stillbirths and funds for SANDS, and decided to take on a tough challenge during Baby Loss Awareness Week.

He said: "When you do something as big as a 24 hour run people want to know why you are doing it so it hopefully raises awareness.

"17 babies a day die stillborn or from other complications. It's one of the highest death rates in Europe. It happens to far too many people."

Lee, who works for Tech Data, in Basingstoke, ran a total of 81 miles at the weekend, raising more than £2,200 for the charity.
