MORE than 80 per cent of patients staying at hospitals run by Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust rated their stay as seven out of 10, according to an annual survey.

The National Inpatient Survey, by Picker, was carried out in HHFT-run hospitals in Basingstoke, Andover and Winchester, in July 2014.

Of the 439 patients who responded, 97 per cent said the room they stayed in was very/fairly clean, 91 per cent said they had enough privacy when being examined or treated and 95 per cent said that toilets and bathrooms were very/fairly clean.

The trust recorded lower scores in other areas with 82 per cent of respondents saying they had confidence and trust in the doctors treating them and 80 per cent said they were treated with dignity and respect.

Mary Edwards, chief executive of HHFT, said: “Getting feedback from patients about their experience during their stay in our hospitals is very important because it helps us to make improvements where we need to. It’s equally helpful to know where and when we are getting it right.”

She added: “However, we are not complacent, and we always want to know how patients think we could be doing better.”
