THE sweet sound of success beckons for three music technology students from BCoT following the successful launch of their record management company, Le Tribe.

Formed by Jake McCormick, Rosie Goodman and Lia Edgson, Le Tribe was created from a business plan for a course assignment at college.

The students created Le Tribe initially as a record label, but soon went on to develop the concept into a management company for start-up bands. Their aim is to help young talent take their first steps into the music industry.

“We are all interested in the events management side of the music industry – none of us are musicians,” said Jake. “We were all really happy with our business plan which included a launch night for a band’s EP.

“When we achieved distinctions we thought we could go on and develop our ideas into a successful venture.”

Le Tribe are currently representing two local bands, Tribeca and Manatee, as well as solo artist Chris Holden. As a management company, they not only represent the bands but also carry out all their promotion and distribution.

“We offer the complete package so our bands don’t have to go anywhere else – we do everything for them,” said Jake. “We bring in revenue through shows and record sales, which have been going really well.

“We design and make promotional items such as t-shirts ourselves using the art and design facilities at BCoT.

“We even make our own CDs! It’s definitely a case of keeping our outgoings low to maximise our income.”

Zach Boakes, drummer in Manatee, said Le Tribe have been instrumental in their success so far.

He said: “They have been so helpful and supportive to our band.”

All three students have one year remaining at BCoT and are then planning to go to university in London and Brighton to study music event management and music business management.

“We really hope we can tap into the huge music scene in both cities and expand Le Tribe even further.

“We’d like to manage additional bands and bring more exposure and success to those we already manage” said Rosie.

This year the three students are planning more shows and promotions for the bands, as well as working hard to complete their A level equivalent Level 3 Music Technology course.

Music technology tutor Paul Boddy, said: “In a short period of time, they have become an inspiration to both their classmates and teaching staff.

“They have shown that with dedication, hard work and vision, a viable and profit-making business can be set up at quite an early stage.”
