A FIRE broke out in a first floor room of a building in Basingstoke after a cigarette was carelessly discarded.
Firefighters were called to a property in Sorrells Close, Chineham at 5.51pm on Wednesday, 23 May to reports of a fire.
A cigarette had been discarded into a nearby recycling bin, which caught fire and the flames spread to the building, which then set fire to a first floor bedroom.
Two engines, one from Basingstoke and the other from Tadley attended the incident and used two sets of breathing apparatus, two high pressure hose reels, two main jets and tactical ventilation for smoke clearance.
Firefighters extinguished the fire and left the scene at 7.14pm.
