A FAMILY have been plagued by mould problems in their flat since moving in, which has led to their children becoming ill.

Jack Tring, 28, and his family live in Hook, where they have been dealing with persistent mould problems one month after they moved in.

Mr Tring’s son Reuben, two, has been in and out of hospital during their tenancy with respiratory problems, which have been linked to the mould and damp.

After a visit from a health inspector, concerns were raised about the environment and the effects on its occupants.

This was in February 2016, after both Reuben and one-year-old Isabella had been going to hospital with respiratory troubles and their mother, Katherine, going as well due to a chest infection.

These have all been linked to the mould problems in the house, which have yet to be resolved.

The family have had it treated several times by their housing association Sentinel, who have been to inspect their property, but so far have not been able to provide any lasting repairs.

“They’ve been pointing the finger at us saying that it is a ‘lifestyle issue’ because we do our washing and other everyday activities in here,” Mr Tring said.

“It’s utterly ridiculous to be saying that it is our fault for doing normal things we have to do.

They have been very unhelpful and unresponsive to our requests.

“The place feels unclean and damp underfoot. It’s destroying us, it has caused so many problems for us and everyone else who is affected on the ground floor.”

Esther Findley, Sentinel’s asset manager, said: “Our surveyor visited the home and found that poor air circulation was one of the issues causing the problem.

“We’ve now replaced the bathroom fan, which wasn’t working as well as it should, and are fitting a Positive Input Ventilation system. This helps reduce the moisture in the air, stopping surface condensation and preventing mould growth.
