A MAN was rushed to hospital with serious injuries following a crash on the A303 near Micheldever.

The accident, which involved two small lorries, happened around 11.55am this morning on the A303 westbound turning for Overton and Micheldever station.

The incident led to the road being closed in both directions as an air ambulance was called to the scene as well as paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS).

The man in his 50s was rushed to Basingstoke hospital by road ambulance with a police escort, where he is being treated for his injuries.

Currently the westbound carriageway of the road is still closed while the accident is being dealt with, and police said it is likely to remain shut for most of the afternoon.

Police are appealing for any witnesses who saw the accident, in particular they would like to hear from the driver of a tractor they believe was driving on the carriageway shortly before the crash. Officers believe he may be an important witness.
