A MAN has been arrested after a 27-year-old died in a crash in Basingstoke last night.

Police are appealing for witnesses after being called to the A339 in Winslade, close to the Lasham turning, at 11.55pm to reports of a crash involving a Volkswagen Golf and a Volkswagen Tiguan.

The driver of the Golf, a 27-year-old man from Alton, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Tiguan, who was uninjured, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by driving without due care and attention while unfit through drink.

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation unit are investigating the exact circumstances of the crash.

Police sergeant Darren Ord, from the unit, said: "We would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this collision late last night or anyone who may have seen either vehicles prior to the incident."
