A CCTV image of potential witnesses to a vicious assault in Basingstoke has been released by police.

Police are hoping to speak to the people in the CCTV image about the assault, which happened just after 3.45am on Christmas Day, when a 28-year-old man working as a security steward at Alpha Cars taxi rank, in Joices Yard, was attacked by another man.

The victim was pulled over some railings and punched in the head several times by his attacker, leaving him with lumps and bruising to the back of his head.

The attacker is described as in his mid twenties, of mixed race, around 5ft 6 inches tall and slim with curly hair.

The two men shown in the CCTV still were in Joices Yard at the time and are likely to have witnessed what happened.

Police are now trying to trace them and are asking anyone who knows who they are or the men themselves to get in touch. They would also like to hear from anyone else with information about the crime.

Anyone with information is asked to call PC Aiden Blackwell at the Basingstoke police office on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
