A MAN has been arrested after a woman was attacked twice in the same night.

In the first attack, the 22-year-old woman from Basingstoke was pushed to the floor and assaulted in Worting Road, Buckskin, between the Shell petrol station and the Worting Road roundabout.

It took place at around midnight on Saturday.

At around 1am this morning, the woman was attacked again, this time inside a block of flats in Spindle Close, Oakridge.

The woman suffered head injuries in the attack which are not thought to be serious or life-threatening.

Police said members of the public helped the woman after each attack.

PC Lee Bishop said: “This was a particularly nasty assault on a woman over a prolonged period of time.

"Initial enquiries suggest several members of the public assisted the victim at the locations of both assaults.

"We would like to identify and speak with these people as they are potentially important witnesses."

A man aged in his 20s and from Basingstoke was arrested today on suspicion of assault causing actual bodily harm.

He has been bailed until August 25.
