A CYCLIST knocked a woman into a bush before trying to steal her handbag.

The attempted robbery took place in Dartmouth Walk, South Ham, at around 7.45am last Friday.

The victim, a 34-year-old woman, was approached by a man on a black bicycle. Police said the man bumped into her, causing her to fall into a bush.

After an unsuccessful attempt to steal her handbag, the man cycled off.

He is described as white, aged in his 30s and of medium build. He wore a dark jacket with the hood up and dark trousers.

His bike was black with white detailing.

Detective Constable Paul Barry, from the Northern Investigation Team, said: “Fortunately the victim was uninjured but the incident has left her quite shaken.

“We believe the offender may have been riding his bike in the local area prior to the incident and we are keen to hear from anyone who might have any information that might assist the investigation.”
