A GANG assaulted members of staff who were opening up a store in Brighton Hill.

Police said two staff members received minor injuries during the robbery at the One Stop shop in Stanford Road, Brighton Hill, on Monday.

Four men with their faces covered assaulted staff at around 5.45am to get into the store. However, they soon fled empty-handed.

One of the staff members was taken to Basingstoke hospital with injuries to his face and head, a spokesman from South Central Ambulance Service said.

One ambulance was sent to the scene at around 6.18am. Officers were seen guarding the shop on Monday before it reopened later that afternoon.

Police said all of the robbers wore dark clothing. One of them was described as of “very large build”.
