A FATHER and daughter from Basingstoke will be among those creating a lively atmosphere when the Olympic Torch comes to the south this week.

Adrian and Verity Jackson, from Lower Brook Street, Brookvale, are both drummers in the Reading Scottish Pipe and Drum band and will be accompanying the torch on part of its stretch through the Berkshire town.

Forty-eight-year-old Adrian, who works at the Atomic Weapons Establishment in Berkshire, has been drumming for 35 years and holds a senior position within the band.

His teenage daughter Verity, 13, a Year Eight pupil at Cranbourne Business and Enterprise College, only took up the instrument 18 months ago but already has a place in the 20-piece band.

Adrian said: “We will be playing when the torch sets off from the town. It should be a wonderful experience. Not many people will have the opportunity to play such a role within the torch relay, so we are certainly looking forward to it.”

Mr Jackson added: “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for us and I am sure we will make the most of it.”
