YOUNG film-makers of the future are being invited to enter a new competition which was launched this week in Basingstoke Organised by Destination Basingstoke, ‘Basingstoke through the Lens’ is a video making competition with a top prize up for grabs from Sony.

Young people aged between 11 and 18 can enter and submit a three-minute video that captures the very best of Basingstoke.

Winning videos will be used to promote the town and the Basingstoke Festival in the future.

Sony is donating vouchers to spend in its staff shop for the overall winner and Sony equipment for the winning young person’s school or college.

Their movie will also be screened at an exclusive event organised by Red Carpet Screenings.

Neil Pilling, programme management office manager for Sony Professional Solutions Europe, said: “Having been based here in Basingstoke for many years, and with a large number of our employees all living locally, we are very keen to support community initiatives like this.

“We are very excited to be involved in this project as not only is it on a subject that is close to our hearts, but we also have the opportunity to work with our other partners to help encourage young people to take pride in their town.”

Felicity Edwards, managing director of Destination Basingstoke, added: “This competition gives an opportunity for the young people in our town to really show off their creative talents and with Basingstoke already renowned for film making talent, we hope this competition will help inspire a new generation.”
