A MOTORCYCLIST from Basingstoke has died following a crash on the town's ring road.

The 63-year-old biker from Basingstoke died in a head-on collision between his Suzuki Bandit motorcycle and a silver Toyota Prius.

It happened just before 3pm on Monday on the A30 Ringway South, between the Winchester Road roundabout and the Hackwood Road roundabout.

Hayley Court, media relations officer at Hampshire Constabulary, confirmed that a male motorcyclist had died in the crash. His next-of-kin have been informed.

The driver of the car, a 39-year-old man from Waterlooville, was taken to Basingstoke hospital.

Firefighters from Basingstoke fire station were also called to put out fires in both vehicles.

Officers closed the road to investigate the cause of the crash and clear the scene. It has since reopened.
