FAMILIES got on their bikes for a treasure hunt around Basingstoke.

The event, organised by Chineham and Sherfield Park Neighbourhood Watch, saw around 80 people look for clues on a route around the town.

Starting in the Scout and Community Hall in Hanmore Road, Chineham, the cyclists travelled to the Black Dam Ponds, through the Crabtree Plantation, through Old Basing and Lychpit and back towards Chineham.

They had to collect answers on a question sheet to prove they had been at the 11 prescribed stopping points. One stop, at the Basing Lime Pits, even had games for people to play, such as boules, badminton and frisbee.

Marian Adams, chairman of the Neighbourhood Watch group, said: β€œIt was started 12 years ago and the idea is to raise the awareness of Neighbourhood Watch by offering a fun day for families. It gets them out into areas they may not know about.”
