AMBITIOUS plans to regenerate a part of Basingstoke will be put before the public from today.

Sentinel Housing Association is consulting on its plans to replace outdated blocks of flats and maisonettes in Freemantle Close, Taverner Close and Westray Close, in Oakridge.

It is felt the current properties no longer meet current standards – with residents also reporting more anti-social behaviour than in other |neighbourhoods.

Martin Nurse, chief executive at Sentinel, said he hopes local residents will have a say in |shaping the redevelopment.

He added: “We will be talking to local residents to find out what they like, and what they want, from their homes and neighbourhood.

“We can then work together to design plans for local improvements which could include new homes, play areas and open spaces.”

Four drop-in sessions will be held in Oakridge Methodist Church and Oakridge Hall for All.

Councillor Cathy Osselton, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s Cabinet member for housing, health and culture, said: “We welcome Sentinel’s initiative in an area which the council has already identified as a priority for regeneration.”

The sessions will be held at: - Oakridge Methodist Church – today from 5pm to 8pm.

- Oakridge Hall for All – Tuesday, September 20 from noon to 3pm.

- Oakridge Hall for All – Wednesday, Septem-ber 21 from noon to 3pm.

- Oakridge Hall for All – Saturday, September 24 from 9am until noon.
