Sir.-How obscene! In the week when we saw transfer fees for £50million and £35m – Windsor and Eton FC ceased to exist as a football club.

The club owed debts in excess of £250,000. It doesn’t take much to figure out that's just over one week’s wages for some of the highest paid players in the Premiership. Windsor and Eton were founded in 1892 which makes their demise even more sad. There seems to be a culture in football where those with the deepest pockets think they can buy success (that’s why I loathe some of these clubs). As long as people are prepared to carry on paying their subscriptions to watch live football matches and paying sky high prices through the turnstile, this will never stop.

It saddens me that people are happy to hand over their hardearned wages so these players, along with their agents, can carry on living a life of pure luxury. Meanwhile, the rest of us in the real world keep a tight reign on our finances with the ever-increasing hikes in petrol and household bills.

It’s refreshing to see Blackpool surprising everyone with their limited resources and doing so well. However, most clubs like them end up getting relegated, sacking the manager, losing their best players and, in the case of Portsmouth, going into administration.

That’s not my idea of living the dream!

My club (Millwall) are in the Championship, and I sincerely hope they don’t make it to the Promised Land.
