Sir.-I am writing in response to the letter in The Gazette on February 10 entitled “Most pensioners happy to pay a bit for bus trips”. It made my blood boil!
The person concerned (name and address withheld) may not be affluent, but is obviously comfortably off and able to pay heating, food and travel expenses. Good for them. There are many who can’t.
They should wake up to the real world and realise there are many worse off than them who go without to survive – old and infirm people, and some who need regular hospital treatment who can’t use buses.
I’m afraid we have become a “me society” with the “I’m all right Jack” mentality. What happened to the old way of sticking together and looking out for each other? Gone forever I fear.
