Sir.–I would like to refer to your article in the May 27 edition, regarding the bid to increase late-night deliveries by lorries at Sainsbury’s, Tadley.
As a resident behind the said store, I must comment on the article and the statement by David McElhannan, Sainsbury’s development executive.
Certainly, since the whole development plan started, I feel the views and concerns of the residents local to the store have been pushed aside, and this is just another amendment to the said plan.
I wonder how long it will be until they request 24-hour opening times.
Clearly, Mr McElhannan does not realise how much noise is caused by these articulated trucks during the evenings, especially on Sundays!
I feel it is also clear that Sainsbury’s do not aspire to their social responsibilities, as their car park generates all kinds of other noise pollution at out-of-hour times, such as the youths who inhabit the area with noisy cars and music.
Surely Sainsbury’s have a responsibility to lock the car park and to employ security to ensure that this does not occur.
