TWO little stars have scooped first and second places in a UK championship with their rock-and-roll dancing.

It was a special day for five-year-old Abbie-Mia Sadler and six-year-old Mia Scannelli, of Worting Road, Basingstoke, when they came away from the UK Dance Championships in Blackpool as champion and runner-up in the under-six category.

Both youngsters – who are part of Footsteps Dance School in Basingstoke - danced their way into the finals by making it into the top 10 at the south east heats in May last year, and for the final they competed against 98 other dancers - 10 from each of 10 regions.

Janine Sadler, principal of Footsteps Dance School and Abbie-Mia’s mother, said: “It’s brilliant, it was totally unexpected and I was gob-smacked the whole weekend.

“It was the first time that Mia, who came second, has competed at this level and Abbie did enter last year but she didn’t even get a call back.”

The proud mum, of Britten Road, Brighton Hill, Basingstoke, who has been running the school with her sister for 15 years, added: “My daughter has been dancing since she was about three but I think since starting school her confidence has exploded and she really enjoys it, which is half of it.”
