AN eye-care charity has been boosted by the fundraising of Basing-stoke employees at an insurance company.

Forty-three employees from disability insurer Unum, in Basing View, Basingstoke, have helped to raise more than £15,000 for SeeAbility by taking part in a running and walking challenge on a route spanning Unum’s Bristol, Basingstoke and Dorking Offices.

Almost 200 Unum employees nationally formed teams and took part in the event, which covered 158 miles and was dubbed the Site2Sight Challenge.

SeeAbility provides services for people with a visual impairment and additional disabilities.

The facilities include Heather House, in Heather Drive, Tadley.

Jayne McGann, fundraising and marketing director at SeeAbility, said: “We would like to thank everyone who took part in the Site2Sight Challenge.

“The proceeds will be going directly to our Just 4 You fund which builds on SeeAbility’s commitment to giving our service users the choice and opportunity they deserve.”

Susan Ring, Unum CEO added: “Our workforce is determined to create more opportunities for people with disabilities and we are delighted to be helping SeeAbility’s Just 4 You Fund.”

Over the past three years Unum has raised £120,000 for SeeAbility through events such as an annual sponsored relay from Land’s End to John O’Groats, dubbed Le Jo’G.
