HE’S used to being top of the bill – but Stewart Copeland, drummer with legendary rock band The Police, was more than happy to be among the supporting cast on one of the proudest days of his life.

St Catherine’s Church, in Wolverton, was the idyllic – if rather damp – setting for the wedding of Ami Carter and Jordan Copeland, who is Stewart’s son.

While the rest of the world-famous band could not make last Saturday’s wedding, fellow member Sting and his wife Trudie Styler sent the happy couple a magnum of Bollinger champagne.

Ami’s proud dad Garry, 54, told The Gazette: “It was raining but that did not matter – the wedding was brilliant.

“They are just a great couple. They get on so well together – they are two halves of a whole.”

The couple, both 25, met through a mutual friend when they were studying for their A-levels, when Ami was at Wycombe Abbey School, in High Wycombe, and Jordan was at Rugby School, in Rugby.

Jordan, a film editor who has worked for the BBC and CNN, proposed one year ago, giving Ami an antique teapot in place of a ring that he had on order.

He then proposed again with the specially-made diamond ring in the middle of Waterloo railway station last month.

Delighted Garry escorted his daughter to the wedding in a 1956 Rolls Royce, which was hired for the special day.

The bride, who works for a Channel 4 website called Bite, wore a couture Versace dress that was made in Milan.

Nine bridesmaids and nine ushers accompanied Ami and Jordan, wearing either blue dresses or, for the men, a blue corsage to go with their top hats and tails.

After the half-hour ceremony, conducted by The Reverend David Barlow, a marquee reception – planned by Andrew Chance, the man behind David and Victoria Beckham’s wedding reception in 1999 – followed in the grounds of Wolverton Park, where Ami’s parents live.

Guests at the reception enjoyed a five-course meal and live music as the celebrations went on into the night.

The happy couple have now set off on their honeymoon – a three-week trip to the tropical islands of Tahiti and Bora Bora.
