Linford Johnson, 32, who moved to Basingstoke from Manchester three years ago, emerged the winner of the race.

He was followed by 15-year-old Thomas Dewey from Salisbury. He is a member of Basingstoke and Mid Hants Athletic Club.

Basingstoke resident Alex Bigg, 26, from Team Bigg, was the third to finish the race.

Lesley Locks, aged 47, dominated, being the first woman to cross the finish line. Hannah Maher, 27, and Gemma Strudwick (28) followed closely behind, securing the second and third positions respectively.

The event began with a heartfelt moment of silence and applause to honour Wally Thorpe, a popular Basingstoke runner who recently died. Wally's family and friends were present at the race as the community paid tribute to his memory.
