MCDONALD'S branches in Basingstoke have reopened following closures due to a major IT outage, affecting restaurants worldwide.

The fast food chain has three branches in Basingstoke, at the Leisure Park, Brighton Hill, and in Market Place, which were closed earlier this morning, March 15, as problems with IT and the McDonald's app were reported.

An employee from the Brighton Hill restaurant confirmed that it was now open, but had closed 'from six o'clock until nearly eight o'clock', with the Leisure Park branch 'shut from half five', and the Market Place McDonald's 'closed this morning'.

McDonald's stores across the UK were hit by the problems, as well as branches in Australia, the United States, and Japan.

McDonald’s Australia said in a statement it is "aware of a technology outage currently impacting our restaurants nationwide and are working to resolve this issue as soon as possible" and apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused.

The official McDonald’s Japan X account has also confirmed that its stores are experiencing a ‘system failure’, adding: "Please wait for a while until the service is restored."
