A BASINGSTOKE pizzeria has been given a four-out-of-five food hygiene rating, improving on its previous score.

Pizzeria Gali, owned by Miguel Barros, opened in Stag Oak Lane, in Chineham Business Park, on Monday, October 23, and on October 26 it was assessed by food hygiene inspectors.

Food safety officers rate food hygiene by handling of food, the cleanliness and condition of the building and facilities, and the officer's confidence in the establishment.

The pizzeria received an overall rating of one, but the business was inspected by the Food Standards Agency again on Tuesday, February 6.

The recent inspection saw Pizzeria Gali's food hygiene rating upgraded to four out of five.

Miguel said: "We did not receive a five star because of the kitchen having wallpaper at the time. This has since been fully tiled, so we are looking forward to celebrating a five-star next time around.

"We have updated our pizza menu and have also installed a new bigger oven, 'Valoriani', chosen by head chef Pizzaiolo Shahriar, which will help with the demands of the pizzas we have been having, and make them even better quality.

"We do not freeze our dough or ingredients so everything we use is fresh and helps us to make some delicious pizzas and food for customers to continue enjoying.

"We should be live with Deliveroo by the end of the week, at which point business will be operating at 100 per cent, so we see a very good future ahead of us."

Miguel added that the pizzeria will be hosting a classic car Sunday show in April called Calzones & Classics.
