MCDONALD'S could be opening another restaurant in Basingstoke if new plans go ahead.

A planning application for an unoccupied unit to turn into a McDonald's has been submitted to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.

The application, which was submitted on Thursday, February 8, proposes alterations to be made to Unit 4 at Hatch Warren Retail Park in Beggarwood.

The unit was previously occupied by Poundstretcher but has remained vacant since the store's closure in October 2022 due to high rent prices.

The plans propose ‘alterations to the shopfront to include the minor relocation of the entrance’ as well as new sliding doors, an additional access door and new grey cladding.

The installation of two new access points at the rear of the store, new doors, replacement glazing and brick infill to ‘match existing finishes’ are also included in the application.

If successful, the plans will mark Basingstoke’s fifth McDonald's in the area, following the announcement in August 2023 that the fast-food company will open a restaurant at Chineham Shopping Centre.

The retailer also has branches in Basingstoke town centre, Brighton Hill, and the leisure park.
