THE A339 has reopened after the road closure which affected drivers in and around Basingstoke, but with two-way temporary traffic lights.

The road was shut between Basingstoke and Kingsclere from Thursday, January 4 due to flooding caused by heavy rainfall.

Hampshire County Council announced the reopening on its X, formerly known as Twitter, page. It said: "The A339 Kingsclere to Basingstoke at Wolverton has now re-opened with two-way temporary traffic lights on site while work continues to clear the remaining flood water."

The council earlier said: "Although some flood water on A339 Kingsclere to Basingstoke has subsided, road closure will be partially lifted as soon as possible so that the clear lane can be used for two-way traffic managed by traffic lights.

"Arrangements are being made to deploy temporary traffic lights."

The closure earlier affected services to Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, with Stagecoach advising passengers travelling to the hospital to use the number 2 bus from Basingstoke bus station.

On Stagecoach's X, formerly known as Twitter, page they said: "Update on A339 road closure, We are now running a direct service to #Kingsclere via Overton + then normal route to #Newbury."
