SIX games of Basingstoke Hockey Club were forced to be postponed last weekend due to the chilly weather rendering pitches unfit for play.

Basingstoke Ladies 1s, sponsored by K J Smith Solicitors, felt the freeze as their clash against Reading Ladies 2s was cut short, with only one quarter played before the game had to be abandoned.

Meanwhile, the Basingstoke Men’s 1s embarked on a chilly journey to take on the bottom-of-the-league Maidenhead, seeking to maintain their flawless record this season.

The Basingstoke side won 9-0 with Graham Garrett-Lang scoring a hat-trick as the team extended their lead at the top of the table to seven points.

Unfortunately, the frosty weather also led to the postponement of games for both Basingstoke Men’s 2s and Basingstoke Ladies 2s.

In other results, Basingstoke Ladies 3s fell 0-3 to Portsmouth Ladies 2s, while Basingstoke Men’s 3s faced a close defeat of 2-3 against Southampton 2s.

However, Basingstoke Men’s 4s secured a 3-1 victory, maintaining their position at the top of the league with goals from John-Paul Vout, Harry Cave, and David Easto.

The weekend brought mixed fortunes for Basingstoke Men’s 5s, who lost 1-4 to Havant, and Basingstoke Men’s 6s, who faced a tough 0-9 defeat against Chichester 5s.

Basingstoke Men’s 7s concluded the weekend with a 0-4 loss to Lavant 1s.

Looking ahead, the club is optimistic that the weather will cooperate for the upcoming fixtures.

Basingstoke Men’s 1s will be playing at home at 11.45am, followed by Basingstoke Ladies 3s against Chichester Ladies 2s and Basingstoke Men’s 3s against Salisbury 3s at 3 pm.
