RANKINGS leader Mason Wilson made it two wins out of three on the Cuestars Under-21 Silver Tour despite not practising for three weeks, writes Tim Dunkley.

The 19-year-old from Basingstoke admitted his expectations were low going into the third leg at Chandlers Ford Snooker Club.

But a relaxed state of mind in a club you feel comfortable in is a powerful combination.

Wilson, who won the first leg in Salisbury, didn’t drop a single frame in his five best-of-three-frames matches up to the final and then beat Isaac Wong 2-1 to extend his advantage.

“I didn’t expect anything today because I haven’t practised for three weeks due to work and college,” he said.

“I had no nerves and no pressure in me whatsoever. (But) Chandlers Ford is a great club and I get on well with it, no matter what.”

And he added: “Thanks to my sponsors. And thanks to my nan who brings me to these tournaments. If it wasn’t for her, I couldn’t do it.”

University of Southampton student Wong, who was running on fumes after revising until 4am that morning, beat last season’s Bronze rankings champion Donnie Gola (Islington) 2-1 in the last four.

Wilson defeated Daniel Walter (Portsmouth) 2-0 in the second semi. Walter, who recorded the day’s highest break of 34, fell at the same stage in his previous tournament in Salisbury.

William Hurley (Rayleigh) is second in the rankings. Gola is third.

Woking Snooker Centre hosts the fourth leg of ten on Sunday, December 3.
