Basingstoke Ladies 1s, sponsored by K J Smith Solicitors, were at home against Bristol Firebrands Ladies 1s this weekend.

Basingstoke started well, containing the Bristol attacks in the first quarter to keep the score at 0-0 at the end of Q1. Bristol increased the pressure in the second quarter and forced a turnover from a Basingstoke free hit, which they moved around the Basingstoke defence to make it 0-1. Bristol then earned a short corner a few minutes later which they converted to take it to 0-2 at halftime.

Basingstoke started the second half determined to make an impact, earning a series of short corners but the score remained 0-2. Bristol continued to put Basingstoke under pressure to score a third.

Despite being 0-3 down, Basingstoke continued to press Bristol in the third quarter to earn a goal of their own, scoring through Maren Mellmann to make the score 1-3.

The final quarter continued with end-to-end hockey but no further breakthrough for Basingstoke. Bristol were able to find another goal just before the closing whistle to end the game 1-4.

Next week, league hockey continues for all our teams except Basingstoke Ladies 1s, with Basingstoke Men’s 1s at home at 11.45am against Witney Men’s 1s, followed by Basingstoke Men’s 3s at 1 30pm.
