BROKEN lights at a car park which serves Basingstoke train station may not be fixed for two weeks, South Western Railway has said.

On Wednesday, September 6, the Gazette spotted that all the lights in the Bunnian Place car park were not working.

At around midnight, the car park was in complete darkness apart from lights serving the footpath towards Basing View.

Trains from London serve Basingstoke train station until at least 2am, with many using the car parks to get home to avoid the taxi queue when buses are not available.

Bunnian Place has just over 230 spaces and costs £9.80 to park all day during the week, falling to £5.50 if you arrive after 1pm. At the weekend, the cost is reduced to £3.50 per day.

The train station is served by two car parks, Bunnian Place and North Yard car park. It is not known if the lights in North Yard are also broken.

A South Western Railway spokesperson said: "I can confirm that we are aware of the issue and we are rectifying it as soon as possible, but this may take one to two weeks.

"We are sorry for any inconvenience in the meantime."
