HOLDERS Basingstoke and North Hants booked their place in this year’s Guy Jewell Cup final with six wicket win over Hook and Newnham Basics A, writes Graham Merry.

They will now play Old Basing at May’s Bounty on Monday, August 28 starting at 2.30pm.

The Bountymen won their semi-final on the first ball of the final over thanks to a boundary from Kieran Wood as finished unbeaten on 59 and Ash Neal also hit 59 in winning total of 163-4.

Earlier, Hook scored 161-9 as Rupert Armstrong led the way with 41, after opener Sam Lockwood scored 30.

Neal 2-22, Dubs Wood 2-29 and Matt Donaldson 2-29 were the chief Basingstoke wicket-takers in the win over Hook.

There was better news for Hook in the Cyril Thompson Trophy as

Tom May scored a superb century to help their B team into the semi-finals with 124 run victory over Kingsclere.

May smashed 102 and was well supported by Kev Light 46 as Hook scored 227-3 from their 20 overs.

In reply, Kingsclere were bowled out for 103. Ed Lyle top scored with 19, while Ollie May 3-10, Ollie Webster 3-12 and John Clarke 2-16 took most of the wickets for Hook.

The final of Cyril Thompson Trophy takes place on Monday, August 28, starting at 11am and is the curtain raiser for the cup final later on the same day.

Admission to both games is free and a big crowd will be expected at May’s Bounty.
