SLOVAK sharp shooter Marcel Balaz has become the sixth Basingstoke Bison player to join local rivals the Bees based in Slough for this coming season, writes Graham Merry.

With the Herd set to miss this coming campaign as repairs are anticipated to the Basingstoke rink, the bulk of the squad has moved just down the road.

Balaz will join fellow former Herd forwards Edgars Landbergs, Liam Morris and Aidan Doughty, as well as defencemen Brandan Baird and Josh Kelly.

The Basingstoke rink will host a charity ice hockey match on Saturday, July 29, when the Basingstoke Buccaneers will take on the RAF Bluewings.

The game is in aid of MIND.org.uk and St Michael’s Hospice (North Hampshire) and they have already raised £900 from their just giving page.

The game has a 6pm face-off with doors opening at 5pm. Admission is £2.50 for over-16s and £1 for under-16s and tickets can only be bought at the game.
