KINGSCLERE and St Mary’s are the latest sides to book their places in the last eight of the Cyril Thompson Trophy, writes Graham Merry.
Kingsclere enjoyed a 43-run success over the Basingstoke and North Hants development XI.
Batting first, Kingsclere scored 154-4 with Jack Grove-White (34) and Steve Hanney (30) leading the way, while Clan Smith took 2-24.
In reply, Basingstoke scored 109-9 with Neil Kygeahally top scoring with 39.
Charlie Richards 3-26 along with Harry Murtagh 2-28 and Ed Lyle 2-20 took most of the wickets.
St Mary’s beat Oakley B by 30 runs after Steve Reid (54) and Mike Moolman (45) helped them to 150-6. James Lancaster 1-23 was the top Oaks bowler.
Lancaster then top scored in the reply with 29, well supported by Patrick Saines 25 as they were bowled out for 120.
Ty Wilkinson 3-11 and Charl Swiegers 3-13 did most of the damage for St Mary’s.
Next week on Monday there is the second semi-final of the Guy Jewell Cup which will see Old Basing take on Rotherfield Park.
The first Trophy quarter-final is a week later, when Chawton face Aldermaston Rugby.
Both games are at May’s Bounty starts at 6pm and admission is free.
